film compound

I shot these as apart of a documentary series I am doing of a compound in Down East Maine, and I love the gritty feel of film. I processed the negatives myself, and then scanned them and did retouching with Photoshop. I really love this mixed media approach of photo, because I love film but I do not have the patience to print them in the dark room.

The photo of the compound I was extremely luck with it. The airplane trail lined up perfectly with the chimney stacks, and looks like smoke coming out. I also love the natural lens flare over the tree, because it was a very sunny day at high noon. So i have to compensate the exposure, and ended up with a great mix.

The photo of the window, I have a huge love for. I noticed when I woke up, the room I slept in always had condensation on the window in the morning. From my breath of sleeping, and the cold house caused the condensation. I decided that the next morning I woke up I would be there with camera in hand to capture the moment, and sure enough the next morning it was there. I shot the photo, and when I processed it I was delighted with the effects. The droplets on the window barely give way to see the trees in the background, and overall I love this photo, merely for it’s simplicity of wonder.

enchanted forest shoot

A friend of mine asked to do some portraits of her, and I decided to take the opportunity to work on some my own fashion photography skills. We went into a local forest in Colorado, and I was attempting to use my on-camera flash with the natural lighting to make some mysterious and magical type photos.

Working together we made some great images, and I love how they incorporate the natural landscape with her clothes to make the enchanted feeling. I worked with them in post, and enhanced some of the colors to add the tone I was looking for.

A great collaboration, and I ended up being very proud of these images!

wilting lilly’s

I’m going to start a mini blog about my recent photo happenings, so people can see what I have done most recently. Hopefully I keep it somewhat up to date!

A good friend of mine gave me some Lilly’s a few weeks ago, but they die and degrade so quickly. I was fascinated by the structure of their petals. I have been influenced by Edward Steichen’s Vegetable collection he did in the 1920’s. Just the beautiful way he captured that shapes has always made me interested in textures of organic matter.

When my Lilly’s started to wilt and die, I wanted to see their veins and the beauty of their fading days.

I had just taken these in my dorm room, and was working with the natural lighting from my windows, and was trying to challenge myself with still-life.
